Amber Franklin

My name is Amber Franklin, I’m 14 years old and 2012 will be my fourth season British Eventing.  I currently have three ponies that I compete from BE 90 to Pony 2**.  I also have various young horses I am producing with my mother Naomi Franklin in preparation for when I am out of ponies.  My ambition whilst in ponies is to gain a place on the GB Pony Squad.  Please have a look at my portfolio that will give you a brief insight into my achievements to date and plans for the future. I started riding when I was three and have been an active member of the North Warwickshire Pony Club since I was five years old. I have had the chance to ride a variety of ponies over the years which has helped me gained experience and has taught me to become used the different ways different horses work.

I have represented the North Warwickshire Pony Club in 3 separate disciplines including dressage, showjumping and eventing, which is my favourite of the three disciplines as it incorporates dressage, showjumping and cross-country. I have also represented them twice at the National Novice Championships on my old pony, Mr. Buttons, with whom I also became Mini Pony Nuts Riders Club Champion on in 2008.

I first started eventing through the Pony Club on Mr. Buttons and then moved up to British Eventing on my best pony Lazy Acres Buccanner (Barry) when I was 12, which is the youngest that you can start eventing. I used to ride as a hobby but I have realised that I want to compete professionally when I leave school if my pony career works out as I hope it will.

MY TRAINING PLAN:
My main trainer and inspiration is my Mum, she competed herself to Advanced level, she owns and runs Lazy Acres Stables, which is a livery and competition yard, she is always on hand to help and support me.  I also have regular lessons to ensure I am constantly developing and improving in each discipline with Laurence Hunt, Spencer Wilton, Yogi Briesner and Jonquil Hemming.  I attend clinics and training camps.  In August 2011 I attended the Charles Owen Pony Programme training camp at Waresley Park, at which I learnt a lot and met some really good friends who also compete at Pony Trials.
